Papercraft Object: The Concept

After the research and finding an artist as inspiration for this project, I have made some thumbnails to explore the ideas I have for my paper craft object.

I knew I wanted an object that reminds me of precious memories or at least I consider to be very valuable. That's how I started to sketch places, food, and objects that either I remember from my childhood or had a meaningful experience with at some point in my life.

After sketching them and reviewing once again the works of Helen Musselwhite that caught my attention, I decided on the following ideas.

1. A Nokia 5130, with the old Java game "Snake III" on display. I liked this idea because I remember my parent's having this phone model when I was a child and how I always asked them to let me play this game on their phones. I thought adding the game on the screen would make this idea more personal.

2. A milk chocolate carton "Fresco Leche" from the brand "Dos Pinos". Ever since I can remember I asked my mom to buy me this specific brand of milk chocolate to have on breakfast or packed into my lunchbox for school. I thought it would be very fun to recreate the packaging with a 2D layered design, as in trying to vectorize the photograph of the chocolate bars and the flowing liquid.

3. The BlockBuster Video store my family used to go when we rented movies. I'm really drawn to this idea because of the nostalgic element it holds and also because I like it when the concepts of 2D and 3D forms are mixed together. The plan is to recreate the stores on each side in a 2D layered design but have the BlockBuster Store in 3D, with movie posters and titles from the 2000's.
